TPsign is an e-Signature app backed by TrustPro QTSP, a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) authorised under EU regulations to issue Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) certificates.

Users who don’t yet have TrustPro QTSP credentials (“pen“) will be automatically redirected to the TrustPro QTSP smartOnboarding page for identity verification before they can access TPsign (“desk“) to sign documents.

Qualified vs. Non-Qualified Electronic Signatures: What’s the Difference?

Under the eIDAS Regulation, not all electronic signatures are the same. They are classified into three main categories, based on the level of technology, security, and legal protection they offer:

• QES – Qualified Electronic Signature:
  The highest level of security and legal value. Issued by a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) like TrustPro QTSP, and equivalent to a handwritten signature in all EU courts.

• AES – Advanced Electronic Signature:
  Offers a good level of security. Typically used for signatures captured via mobile devices (e.g., graphometric signatures) and binds the signer uniquely to the document.

• ES – Simple Electronic Signature:
  Basic form of electronic signature, such as signing via email or ticking a box online. Offers the least protection and legal recognition.

Qualified and Non-Qualified Electronic Signatures Under eIDAS

The eIDAS Regulation ensures that both qualified and non-qualified electronic signatures (simple and advanced) cannot be rejected as evidence in court just because they are electronic. This “non-discrimination clause” protects the legal standing of all types of e-signatures.

However, qualified electronic signatures (QES) carry a stronger legal effect and offer higher technical security, thanks to the strict requirements that Qualified Trust Service Providers (QTSPs) must meet. This makes QES the most reliable and legally robust form of electronic signature under EU law.

Qualified Trust Services: The Gold Standard for Security and Legal Certainty

Qualified trust services offer the highest level of legal certainty and security for electronic signatures.

Qualified certificates for electronic signatures are issued by entities that have been officially granted qualified status by a national competent authority and are listed in the EU Member States’ trusted lists, accessible through the EU Trusted List Browser.

While different types of electronic signatures (simple, advanced, qualified) may suit different situations,

only Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) are explicitly recognized across the EU as having the same legal effect as handwritten signatures — ensuring full legal value wherever you do business.
